As we come to the end of another successful school year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what a wonderful year it has been for our Garden Village Primary Academy community.

There is so much to celebrate. We have seen incredible achievements from our children and significant progress in learning, personal development and wellbeing. I am immensely proud of every child for all they have accomplished this year. It has been a pleasure to watch their confidence blossom, their social skills flourish, and their independence grow as they continue to develop into resilient and capable young people.

I would also like to thank all our parents and carers for your continued support throughout the year. Working together makes such a difference, and we greatly appreciate your encouragement, partnership and trust.

A special thank you must also go to every member of staff and Governor at GVPA. Their unwavering commitment, care and dedication to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive is truly remarkable. They work tirelessly each day to help our children achieve their very best and enable everyone to "Soar to Excellence!"

I hope you enjoy reading your child's school report and take pride in celebrating their successes and progress this year. Each report reflects the hard work, perseverance and growth your child has shown throughout the academic year.

As we look forward to the summer break, here are some highlights from the past two weeks that showcase the wonderful experiences and achievements of our pupils.

Miss Matthews and Mrs Guild are so proud of the progress the children have made this half term! We are continually amazed by their determination and perseverance. Here are some of the highlights:

We had so much fun kicking off the Fierte Festival in Reception. The children looked fabulous, dressing up in clothes linked to the vocabulary ‘fluorescent’, ‘flamboyant’, ‘shimmering’ and ‘sparkling’.

Art – Matisse

We enjoyed learning about the work of the artist Henri Matisse. We learnt about his use of bold colours and shape. Inspired by his work, we created our own Matisse-style snail pictures.

Creative Writing 

We enjoyed reading the poem ‘I wish I was a Pirate’. Using the poem and the vocabulary, we created a pirate character description.

Dance

We thoroughly enjoyed exploring dance from around the world! Our favourites were street, Bhangra and flamenco! 

Singing

We’ve loved learning the songs for the festival. Our favourite is ‘Count on Me’- we’ve really enjoyed doing the Makaton signs! 

Creative Writing

As part of our festival learning, we completed an artist study on Vincent van Gogh. We explored many of his famous paintings and discussed what we liked and disliked about them, sharing our thoughts and opinions thoughtfully. We then focused on his famous painting, Starry Night, and used our imaginations to think about what it would feel like to be inside the picture. The children wrote about what they could see, hear, and feel, producing some wonderful descriptive ideas and showing fantastic imagination.
 

Art

We then used Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh as inspiration to create our own beautiful artwork using oil pastels. First, we practised sketching sunflowers before following step-by-step instructions to create our own versions. Finally, we added colour using oil pastels to bring our pictures to life. These pieces of artwork have blown everyone away who has seen them. Every child truly shone and demonstrated that every child is an artist!

Poetry

In poetry, we used the poem What is Pink? as a stimulus for our own writing. We explored the vocabulary within the poem, created illustrations to match the text, and thought of rhyming words for different colours. Using these rhyming words, we then wrote our own versions of the poem. The results were outstanding, and the children were fantastic at reading their poems aloud with confidence and expression.

Dance

We also enjoyed a very exciting Dance Day, which was filled with fun and energy! We explored different genres of dance and music, including ballet, street dance, and Irish dancing. One of our highlights was learning about and watching the famous dance group Diversity. We also practised dance moves from different decades, including the Running Man and the Twist. Mrs Burke taught us about dances from around the world, such as Bhangra, Flamenco, Hula, and Salsa, giving us a wonderful opportunity to experience a variety of cultures through movement and music.

Music

Outside of Festival Week, we have continued our music learning by exploring pitch. The children have been using glockenspiels to follow patterns and create both high and low sounds. They have enjoyed experimenting with different notes and developing their understanding of how pitch changes in music.

English

In English, we have been studying the story Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish. We have written command sentences to tell the dinosaurs how to look after our world, sequenced the events of the story, and retold the story in our own words. The children have worked hard to use their phonics, punctuation, and growing writing skills to produce some excellent pieces of work.

Mathematics

In Maths, we have been learning all about time. We have explored the days of the week, months of the year, and learnt about seconds, minutes, and hours. The children have also been practising telling the time using o'clock and are becoming much more confident in understanding how we measure and talk about time in our everyday lives.

Well done, Year 1! We are incredibly proud of all the enthusiasm, creativity, and hard work you have shown. Keep shining brightly!

Tamworth Festival - Better Together 2026

On Saturday 4th July, thirty Reception and Year 1 dancers took to the large stage at Tamworth Castle Grounds to perform the GVPA dance, Better When I'm Dancing. It was a privilege to support and watch the children perform with such confidence, enthusiasm and joy—every single child shone brightly, and we could not be prouder of them.

A huge thank you to Pip and Phoebe for the amazing choreography and for the countless hours spent rehearsing with the children to make this performance such a success. Special thanks also to Pip for customising the children's T-shirts, which looked fantastic on stage.

Finally, thank you to all the staff who helped make this wonderful experience possible for our children. It was a truly memorable occasion and a proud moment for the whole GVPA community.

GVPA - Sports Day 2026

Thank you parents for attending the Sports Day event. The children had the best time and are super proud of themselves!

Walking, scootering and biking, many without stabilisers are in abundance, arriving at school in the morning. It is a joy to see and the children are so happy and proud!

Thank you to all parents who parked respectfully at Sports Day. 

Unfortunately, we had a telephone message from a local resident who lives in the flats opposite the school; he was unable to park in his allocated parking space. Please do not park in the car park at the rear of the flats. This is resident parking only.
