Reception Maple is excited about entering the final term of their Reception year.
Personal development is the theme for this newsletter. Oracy, self-confidence, being determined and resilient are a few personal development skills that our children have fully embraced through the opportunities they have been provided. We are very proud of every child.
Our attendance continues to be a fantastic 96.18%. Thank you for your continued support.

In Drawing Club last week, Reception Maple were highly inspired in their writing by the brilliant book - Superworm, by Julia Donaldson.
Using the new vocabulary - heroic - the children used their imagination creatively to plan and write about a party for Superworm to say thank you for saving all the insects.
On Monday, the children celebrated World Ocean Day. Linked to this, Miss Matthews read another Julia Donaldson text - Tiddler - to inspire the children's writing.
Highly motivated, the children wrote many sentences and challenged themselves to use the new vocabulary word - reunited! We are immensely proud of every child's writing.

Little Wandle - Phonics and Reading
In phonics, Reception Maple continue to develop their blending and segmenting skills for multi-syllabic words. Miss Matthews and Mrs Guild are delighted with how every child is applying their phonic knowledge to their writing. For example, the use of -ed when writing words such as 'looked' and 'reunited'. In reading, fluency continues to be a skill that children are challenging themselves to read with.
Look at our independent writing using our phonic knowledge!

In Mathematics, Reception Maple has become fluent in identifying odd and even numbers. Thank you to Odd Todd and Even Steven for helping us!
The children have also extended their knowledge of patterns. We are now able to make our own patterns rules!
This week, throughout the provision, Miss Matthews and Mrs Guild have been teaching and encouraging the children to apply their knowledge of 'positional language'. Using vocabulary such as besides, next to and beneath, we can now describe the position of an object in reference to another.

This term, Mrs Burke, in her assembly, has taught us about the importance and virtue of being honest and forgiving. As a class, we are excellent at telling the truth, and we're developing an understanding that the word "sorry" means that we will try not to do something again.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome the owner of Vision Football Academy - our after-school club - to deliver a PE lesson to Reception Maple. As ever, the children were incredible, listening and following instructions and had a great time progressing through the lesson. A huge thank-you to Charlie Jones for your lesson. We cannot wait for our very first Sports Day at GVPA!
Thank you, Mr Jones!

On Wednesday, Mrs Burke invited Ellie, the Environmental Superhero, from 'Ray of Stars' to deliver a drama workshop in school. Every child had a great morning, developing their speaking and listening skills, vocabulary and confidence in a fun-filled workshop. Enhancing every area of the curriculum, Ellie captured the children's attention and imagination in a truly magical way.
Thank you Environmental Superhero!

The workshop started with the children entering the hall to see the Environmental Hero sleeping on the floor. Listening to her story introducing herself, the children were buzzing and super excited to wake her up!

Once awake, Environmental Hero played a drama warm-up game with the children.
The children then explored how super-heroes move, developing some good descriptive vocabulary.
The children decorated a super-hero mask and slap-band.
Thank you, Ellie at Ray of Stars. We had a great drama workshop with you.

Tamworth Festival - 5th July 2025
Reception Maple are super excited and busy preparing for the Tamworth Festival at the Castle Grounds on July 5th 2025.
A huge thank you to Miss Phoebe - Pip's daughter - for your incredible dance teaching skills. We are busy learning our modern dance to perform on the festival stage. We might be biased, but we are so good!

On 8th June, it was World Ocean Day. Reception Maple were fascinated during Mrs Bukre's assembly about the ocean, what it is, how it helps us and what we need to do to protect it. Miss Matthews was delighted to see us link this learning to our previous learning about the text - There is Something About Stanley.
As a result, we were so inspired to apply our new knowledge in the provision.
