Reception Maple has had a fantastic couple of weeks, learning lots of new knowledge and participating in some new experiences, enhancing their personal development.
The transition plans for the new Reception cohort have commenced, and we cannot wait to welcome the new Reception children in July for the stay and play sessions.
Our attendance is something we are so very proud of 96.47%. Thank you for your continued support.

In Drawing Club last week, Reception Maple enjoyed reading and writing about the Big Bad Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood. One of the children's favourite challenges was to write an answer to this challenge from Miss Matthews... The wolf is hungry because he didn't eat Little Red Riding Hood. What or who will he eat?

This week, the children had fun watching the classic cartoon Tom and Jerry. Inspired by the characters' relationships, the children have produced some fantastic independent writing. The application of the children's phonic knowledge and spelling of high frequency and tricky words is wonderful!

Little Wandle - Phonics and Reading
In reading, our children continue to make great progress with their independent blending of decodable words and multi-syllabic words. Their reading of the tricky words is strong too. It is a joy to hear the children speak proudly about their "fluent" reading.

In Mathematics, we have moved onto sharing and grouping using the vocabulary share, group, even, odd and equal. All the teaching staff in Reception have been blown away by the children's ability to share and solve simple word problems by grouping objects.

Mrs Burke, in her weekly assembly, has introduced us to some new virtues, including forgiveness and setting goals. Visitors to Garden Village continue to comment on our children's behaviour when they visit the school. We are immensely proud of everyone.

This term, Miss Matthews and Mrs Guild are helping us to transfer our gynastic skills from the mats onto the new PE equipment. For some this took much courage and bravery but by the end of the first lesson, we had made so much progress!

Expressive Art and Design
Last week, Mr. Bill built our outdoor easels. We have really enjoyed being creative in the outdoor area!

We are also very creative when we use the tools on the interactive whiteboard.

In music, we have started a new topic called 'exploring transport'. Mrs Burke is so impressed with our retrieval knowledge of tempo and pitch.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
On Thursday 8th May, we remembered and celebrated 80 years since Victory in Europe day. Mrs Burke started the day with an assembly where we learnt some facts about VE day and listened to some beautiful songs - our favourite was 'We'll Meet Again'. Miss Mattews brought her great grandad's ration book and identity card to share with us. In the provision, we continued to learn more about this very special day.

Thank you GDB, we are privileged to have seen and learnt about these real artefacts.
We also took part in the two-minute silence.

On Monday 12th May, we remembered Florence Nightingale on her birthday. On this day too, we also had our first visit from the school nursing team. Miss Matthews and Mrs Guild previously spoke to us about the role of nurses and, after Mrs Burke's assembly, we certainly impressed the nursing team with our knowledge of the 'Lady with the Lamp'. Back in the classroom in the provision, the children build on this knowledge in the 'mobile' doctors' surgery that was created.

Exploring the Local Community - Tamworth Indoor Bowls Club
Today, we had the most wonderful afternoon in our local community when we walked to Tamworth Bowls Club. Reception Maple experienced their bowls lesson and especially enjoyed the biscuits, juice and ice-lollies! The kindness the community gave us was simply lovely.
