Headteacher's Message

The children and staff at Garden Village are having the most wonderful time learning about Christmas.

Every Reception child, accompanied by the nursery choir, shone bright in their first Nativity Performance – The Star of Bethlehem. Reception Maple also had an enjoyable time during their first school trip to Ash End Children’s Farm. There are many learning experiences in this week's newsletter that we are excited to share with you.

Our attendance continues to be fantastic 97%. We are so very proud of this achievement.

Thank you to all our parents and the local community for your continued support.

Thank you to Mrs Guild's mum who crocheted the sheep for our Nativity and embroidered this beautiful Christmas decoration.

Thank you, Pip, for your creativity and kindness - every Reception child has a personalised Christmas bauble on the tree.

Drawing Club

Last week, the children used the book ‘Rapunzel’ to inspire their writing. The children used their imagination brilliantly, designing and labelling a new potion for the witch, and they also used the new vocabulary ‘ascend and descend’ to plan a new route for the Prince to rescue Rapunzel!

The Christmas Story: Experience the magic of the first Christmas

This week, linking to our Christmas theme, we read the Nativity Story – the birthday book which was donated by Mrs Burke. Using the vocabulary ‘travelled’, the children used their phonics to design and label the stable animals and even plan a new route for the donkey, as he was so exhausted travelling to Bethlehem. Miss Mathews was so impressed with how so many children used their phase 3 sound /ee/ to label the sheep!

Little Wandle - Phonics and Reading

The Autumn Term assessments have been completed and the children have now started to learn the Phase 3 sounds /ai/ee/igh/oa/. The children have done brilliantly recognising, reading and writing the sounds. We can also now read 21 tricky words!

Maths

In Maths, we have been learning about ‘zero’ – the absence of something. Using zero, the children have also ordered numbers 0-5.

Design & Technology

In readiness for our soup making next week, the children have planned the vegetables that they would like to add to their soup; they have even been busy designing the soup packaging and labels!

Ash End Farm Trip

On Friday 6th December, Reception Maple had an amazing day at Ash End Children’s Farm. For some, it was the first time travelling on a coach; this was so much fun, especially singing the Christmas songs that we have learnt! On the farm, Farmer Kerry, helped us to feed the goats and sheep and then hold some newborn chicks and chickens. After, we visited the reindeers who were watching over Santa’s sleigh and later, we performed our Nativity brilliantly in the stable with a real donkey and animals. The best surprise of the day was the visit to Santa. So many special memories were made. In the afternoon, we were allowed to stroke the rabbits and play in the outdoor playground.

The Star of Bethlehem

Here are a few memories from our fantastic Nativity this week. We are so proud of our children, every single Reception and Nursery child was outstanding!

Multi-Sports After-School Club

Last Friday, our first after-school club started – multi-sports. A very kind man called CG came into Garden Village to teach us many games using balls and cones. We had so much fun!

Christmas Jumper Day

On Thursday, we participated in Christmas Jumper Day, which raised valuable money for the Save the Children charity. During the day, we had lots of fun designing our own Christmas jumpers, but we also reflected on how important it is that we help other children who are not as fortunate as us.
