Headteacher's Message

Welcome back to Summer Term 1.

Reception Maple have returned to school, excited to learn, taller and, for some children, missing a few teeth!

Although this is a four-week term, the children have so much to share with you from the week before Easter and this first week back.

Our attendance is still a fantastic 95%. We are certainly maximising every learning opportunity at Garden Village Primary Academy.

Drawing Club

In Drawing Club before the Easter break, Reception Maple had a "spectacular" time drawing and writing about the story 'Aliens Love Underpants'.

The children invented a new spaceship to get the aliens home after their ship broke down. Then the children had even more fun creating a machine that will make more underpants for the aliens!

This week, the children read this beautifully illustrated book - The Odd Egg. Using the new vocabulary "cherish", the children imagined that the duck had found another new egg. Crack... crack... The egg is hatching. I wonder what the baby creature will want to eat?

Little Wandle - Phonics and Reading

Reception Maple continues to amaze Miss Matthews and Mrs Guild with their amazing blending and fluent reading.

Maths

In Mathematics before the Easter break, we continued to learn how to add amounts together, answering the questions: How many are there?  How many were there first?  How many are there now? How many are there altogether?

This week we have used the text Mr Grumpy's Motor Car to help us to learn about how to manipulate, compose and decompose shapes. Using the vocabulary: arrangement, rotate, move and manipulate, the children used 2D shapes to make different patterns and pictures.

Character Education

This term we have a new set of virtues to achieve. Good manners every day is the virtue for this week. We have helped each other to remember too, especially when someone holds the door for you.

Religious Education

On Thursday 10th April, Bev from the Elim church taught the children about the Easter story but related it to the  feeling of being happy or sad. After the assembly, Bev kindly resourced an incredible Easter craft workshop for the children where each child completed three different Easter related activities: Easter planting, Easter scratch art and Easter wreath making. A truly wonderful morning was had by every child and we cannot thank Bev enough for her teaching and kindness.

Reception Maple made and posted cards to the local community to wish them a Happy Easter.

Expressive Art and Design

This term Reception Maple is learning about sculptures. During the first lesson, the children had a lot of fun exploring clay and its properties.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

The day we released the beautiful butterflies. We were so proud of the painted ladies.

Easter Egg Competition

On Monday 7th April, OPOJ Nursery and Reception Maple blew the staff away with their entries for the Easter Egg competition. The entries were so good that every child was made a winner, but for each year group there was also a winners winner. It was just lovely to see the children's own creations and imagination in every piece. Anonymously, Pip was tasked with the challenge to decide on a winners winner for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. Here are the winners...

Easter Bonnet Parade

We also decorated an Easter bonnet and invited our families into school to watch our parade on the stage. "Do you like my East bonnet?"

Easter Chocolate Nests

On the last day, Mrs Guild and Miss Matthews helped us to make chocolate Easter nests, and they were delicious!

Chocolate Easter Bingo!

On Thursday 10th April, the Easter theme continued when GVPA and OPOJ children and parents were invited to play our very first Chocolate Easter Bingo! Everyone's eyes were down and keen to win a line or full house when Mrs Burke called the numbers. A huge thank you for every chocolate donation that was kindly given to make the hamper prizes. A lot of fun was had...espcially the teachers!

Here are some of the winners...
